In 1996 , the company America Online (AOL ) released the news that he had discovered life on Jupiter. The statement was backed by statements of an alleged planetary biologist own senses and to AOL , Ted Leonsis , he claimed to be in possession of government documents that proved the discovery . It proved to be another April's Fools joke . According recognized a company spokesman later, the joke was intended as a tribute to the radio program on War of the Worlds by Orson Wells.
