NASA astronomers discovered a
planet similar to Earth in size stellar habitable zone, thanks to the Kepler
space telescope.
The
planet was named Kepler-186f and is located in the Kepler-186 system in the
constellation Cygnus, 500 light years from Earth.
It
is the first exoplanet that is sufficiently far from the star that it orbit to
support life.
It
could be a rocky planet according to previous research.
It
orbit along with four other planets around a red star M,
that is
smaller than the Sun. It takes
130 days to orbit the star from which it receives a third of the energy that
the sun give to the earth.
NASA
astronomers believe that it is very
likely that any sign of life can come from a system around a red dwarf star M.
